You might use the online systems to make contacts, with whoever.

BUT:

Don't fall in love online.

Don't send money to somebody you ever only met online.

Don't give out your visa / credit cards details online to people or companies you dont know.

Don't give out details of your bank account.

If you really believe, the person is real (after arranging a both ways webcam connection, and make sure it's not a video record) and you need to know her, get yourself in very detailed connection, where and how to meet. Go there yourself. Book a hotel for yourself, YOU YOURSELF. And don't tell the other person, which hotel.

Better - if possible - travel with a friend or person of confidence, and meet on a neutral public point like an airport for the first time.

Spend money only on yourself. You can show your - material and other - gratitude later, if you find out the person is worth it, after you met.

Well, from that time on it works as a normal relationship.

But make shure the online affair was only the first contact, until meeting in person.

WA woman dies after online relationship scam

MARK COLVIN: Australian and South African police are investigating the death of a West Australian woman who fell victim of an online relationship scam.

Jette Jacobs was found dead in a guest house in Johannesburg last month. She'd travelled there to meet a man she'd been talking to over the internet since 2009. She'd sent tens of thousands of dollars to the man, who said he was Nigerian.

One estimate suggests that West Australians are sending about $1 million every month to relationship fraudsters in West Africa. It's believed more is going to swindlers elsewhere in the world.

David Weber reports.

DAVID WEBER: Despite warnings from her family, 67-year-old Jette Jacobs had decided to start a new life with the man. She'd met him online in 2009 and later apparently met him in person.

Jette Jacobs went to South Africa late last year to follow up on his marriage proposal.

Detective Senior Constable Rob Martin of WA Police describes what happened next.

ROB MARTIN: During the period while she was in Johannesburg by herself waiting for this person to arrive, she'd sent approximately $20,000 to him from Johannesburg to Nigeria to assist him with travelling to meet her in Pretoria. From there, sadly, we were notified that on the 9th of February this year, that she was found deceased in her rented villa.

DAVID WEBER: So the person that she was supposed to meet is the one who discovered her body. Does that suggest that she was a victim, in terms of the murder was she a victim of a local crime or of the fraudsters?

ROB MARTIN: We wouldn't be able to say at this point in time that it is actually a murder. We can say that there is suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

It would appear that she certainly appears to be a victim of the overseas fraud, where she has lost pretty much everything that she had. As far as that person who discovered her deceased, whether he had any involvement in her death is too early for us to be able to say.

DAVID WEBER: It's a bit different to, I guess, a relationship fraud where they've used a completely different photograph and identity to pretend that they're somebody that they're not.

ROB MARTIN: Absolutely, this is something which is a bit different.

We don't know at this stage that whether the person that was purporting to be, Jesse was his name, whether it is in fact Jesse or whether he has multiple identities, we haven't been able to firm that up at this point.

DAVID WEBER: Some of the scams we've been made aware of are where the person in Australia never meets the person from overseas, and in fact their life savings go overseas expecting that person to come to Australia. Do we know of any other cases where somebody from Australia has travelled overseas to meet the purported romance?

ROB MARTIN: We've had a couple of occasions as part of our Operation Sunbird investigations, is that we've identified some people who were actually very close to departing to Nigeria to meet -

Nigerian scammers profiles has several faults that we may not notice but they are there;

Bio: they are all god fearing, honest and in a lot of words they will explain why they are looking for a woman and how they are going to make her happy. Shortly they relate to Tagged and Facebook as another dating site.

They lost their wives (widowers) in many cases it’s a tragic event, and they have a kid or two to take care of (Note that the amount of kids may depend on the picture they succeeded to steal)

They are honest – this word will always be in the first sentence and will be repeated several times.

Hobbies: scammers believe that women are attracted to family related activity so camping will be there swimming and of course to be shown intellectual they love reading. actually reading their hobbies they seems quite boring people.

Many of the scammers don’t really understand the difference between the UK and the USA and they claim to grow in the UK but live in the USA they have no idea how rare it is.

Many of them will place Oxford as their university sometimes as high school even. They simply know one name so they use it.

General: Long bio is suspicious unless they are selling something online; most people won’t bother that much with the Bio.

Friends: small friends list mainly women with 1-2-3 networkers (that accept anyone) but almost always another faked profile or African which is in many cases the actual scammer.

The wall: many times contain sentences such as “i am waiting for my love”, ” love is the more important…” and things like that. It may also expose their current victim, the one they declare their love to or call her my wife. Look carefully and check who is the current cooperating woman she is probably the one to be scammed next.

You can see a charming attractive gentleman on photo, but this one is not a charming person but a scamming male Nigerian CRIMINAL - only an ugly Nigerian SCAMMER! NEVER send him any message or comment. YOU DONT KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO YOU CAUSED BY A SCAMMER? From the first day, he will find out your private details - you even don’t notice. He is your best friend, your big love, your everything - until he thinks you really trust him. This may take days, weeks or even months. Then he will ask you for some money, with any excuses, he will ask you for a favour like sending a copy of your passport or any other proof of your love. If you don’t agree then he tries to hurt you a lot. Of course, IT IS ALWAYS YOUR MISTAKE. He even may threaten you heavily - until you agree. If you don’t send him money, he will use your details and pictures to CLONE YOU: With this virtual identity he will start to scam his next victim - YOU WILL BE THE ONE IN CHARGE. NEVER send any money to a scammer or accept money from him. ### Never get in touch with a scammer - ANYWAY YOU WILL BE THE LOSER! Don’t even write a comment! The scammer will use it to get in touch with you and scam you! ### Scammers do NOT seek your love - ONLY YOUR MONEY, or want to steal your identity. Normally, his great picture is stolen from models in the internet. ### ######

But the scammers very often give the phone number starts with 44 (UK!), but followed by 701; 702; 703 and then few digits are redirected to NIGERIA! Scammers pay for this service, pretending to be UK citizens.All women think 44 is the country code for UK so they start trusting the man after talking to him on the phone. If you see 44701,702,703.. it means NIGERIA!

UK numbers. FOR LANDLINE NUMBERS:

These are an area code followed by the number. The UK area codes begin 01- ALWAYS - For all areas outside London, and for London it is 02. All UK numbers begin +441, or +442. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE FOR LANDLINES.

The number like this: 0094470359861... is a UK number with the prefix "009". There are some countries who can not dial directly 0044. After the 44 you see "701; 702; 703" is a special number circle in UK that can be forwarded to every point on this earth. It’s expensive, but scammers use it often… ##########
